Tubefreeks was originally together for a long stretch of the 90's.
In 2008, a "possibly reunion?" email surfaced. When original band
members Paul van Valkenburgh, Shawn Vickers, and Geoff Burrell began
talking, there was one clear message. The group wasn't going to come
back without have some new kick-ass material to go support!!
Writing good songs was never difficult for Tubefreeks and it was more of the same.
Paul and Shawn began woodshedding ideas in Frederick, MD in August '08. For whatever
reason, the ideas were flowing like a waterfall. Within 3 months, the group had 18
preliminary song ideas.
Next began rehearsing and turning the ideas into songs. Together with Geoff again,
the group rehearsed in Gaithersburg, MD for 2 months and tweaked the songs, added
intro's, endings, and other transitions and the album began to take shape.
The next phase was up the road to Chris Kozlowski's Polar Bear Lair studios.
Chris is a veteran engineer and has produced hundreds of hard rock albums from his
studios. The instruments were all recorded separately. Having the 18 original song
ideas was such a luxury as the group could cherry pick the songs they knew were good.
The recording lasted from early 2009 to the Fall. Mixdown and mastering took
another 5 months. All in all it was a huge effort for the band.
The best part is that the original goal was achieved.... to release a kick-ass album to reunite behind and support. Enjoy!!!
What's next? Another album?
